Congratulations to Jonathan Duhamel for taking down poker’s biggest prize by beating an incredibly difficult field. The Main Event final table itself was filled with pros that have made a killing on money poker sites.
Duhamel is the first Canadian to ever win the World Series of Poker Main Event. The 23 year old quit school in order to go pro on the best US poker sites after a significant amount of success in the online games. He is mostly a cash game player, playing up to 18 tables of 6-max at a time. He said that he believes that being a cash player on the PokerStars download helped him in his victory because it was easy for him to adapt to a variety of situations.
Prior to this victory, his largest live cash did not come in casinos for USA players but overseas in Europe. In an EPT event in Prague he bubbled the final table of a €5,000 NLHE event for close to $55,000. At the start of this year he got his name out there in the PCA, an annual series hosted by the PokerStars bonus code. He busted in 151st place for a cash of $17,000.
When asked what he will do with his winnings, Duhamel said that he is not sure yet, but he will definitely be buying seasons tickets for the Montreal Canadiens. At least he is not likely to waste it all on a slot machine download! Someone asked if he would be going back to school, and he said that he might go back as a personal accomplishment.
